For many, the day began with Possessed clearing the head/ears of any residual cobwebs, thanks to one of the loudest, grinding & nasty sound mixes ever (not just on the boat). Hey, I witnessed Motorhead getting cut, plaster falling from the ceiling of the Variety Theater. So I've witnessed LOUD! Bloodbound singer Patrik Selleby felt devil horns weren't enough and now has a green, grassy patch affixed to the side of his face. Orphaned Land entertained in Studio B, the converted ice skating rink. Old heads were thrilled by a smorgasbord of styles, including NJ thrash trio Whiplash, the Teutonic metal of Grave Digger, kings of doom: Candlemass, a set of vintage Venom tracks and Michael Schenker Fest (down to just Doogie White and Gary Barden, as vocalists. Graham Bonnet didn't make the trip and Robin McAuley was felled by a sudden illness).
Dutch symphonic metallers Epica, led by mastermind/guitarist/growler Mark Jansen and the stunning Simone Simons, filled the theater/ballroom and Finntroll kept barricade security busy with a constant parade of crowd surfing fans: the most steady stream of the cruise.
